The show: Yeah, so what? He smoked crack. He always had my back…

Catchy, joyful, upbeat, fuzzy and beautifully quirky song of the week (and inspiration for the blog title) goes to Woody and Jeremy‘s “My Old Bassist”.

And if that’s your… ahem… cup of tea… sorry… allow us to thoroughly recommend the album it comes from, Gravy in My Coffee.

On with the show…

The Show: I won’t get on my knees. Don’t make me do that please…

While researching and putting together the show this week (which involves throwing darts at music maps and scouring Bandcamp for Christchurch and Brisbane music) I stumbled across Hatchie & The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart’s glorious cover of The Jesus & Mary Chain’s “Sometimes Always”.

Proof indeed that the Reid brothers have an uncanny knack for writing perfect pop songs lovingly drenched in honeyed guitar tones. Sadly the pink vinyl 7-inch single has sold out but you can still have a listen below.

I seem also to have stumbled into the trap of playing TV theme tunes, but sometimes you just have to scratch that itch.

Karlmarx “The Karlmarx Project”

The Karlmarx Project

Starting off the show at midday today with a selection of tracks from Karlmarx‘s forthcoming album “The Karlmarx Project” – nice, chilled slo-mo cosmic disco.

Karlmarx are brothers Karl McNeill (aka Isaac Aesili ex Solaa) and Mark McNeill (former RDU sound engineer who can read your mind like a book, take your vague idea, and make something better out of it)  are two of the mellowest people you will ever meet.

Karlmarx describe “The Karlmarx Project” as “a soundtrack for a science fiction movie that was never made.” I’m a sucker for soundtracks and what I’ve heard so far sounds like my favourites Dam-Funk, Rekid and Snooze hooking up with Vangelis for a jam.

Not sure when the album gets a release but we’ll keep you posted.
