The show: Taking the peace

So maybe we were a little mean spirited on the show today about Bazza Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

We were kidding when we said he sent an unmanned drone to collect the prize while he sat in the White House contemplating the enigma of solving the Afghanistan situation (eg: whether to bomb Afghanis or shoot Afghanis). Unmanned drones can’t reach Norway from US bases in Iraq.

Anyway, here’s US Congressman Ron Paul with an interesting perspective on the situation. [Thx Max & Stacy]

The show: G20 sonic cannon hijinx

We’re waiting for the remix. In fact, we’re waiting for G20 protestors next year to remix it live and return it to the cops realtime. Maybe they could get some help from Aphex Twin?

Anyway, it did occur to us that the very people the cops are using their Long Range Acoustic Device on might be the very same people who would actually enjoy some hardcore Belgian gabba. So it may not be that effective. We’ll find out the first time they try and use it in Berlin.

[Thx Boing Boing]

The show: I ran all night

Apologies to long time listener Greg Curline. He got a bit freaked out today because the DJ Foundation and Master Gunnery Sergeant Bill Dower set sounded like an announcment that the USA was about to invade Iran.

    Armed Forces Workout

Released in 1984 on K-tel Master Gunnery Sergeant Bill Dower “Armed Forces Workout” features the voice of United Statets Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant Bill Dower giving exercise instruction over such classics as I Ran (So Far Away), Eye of the Tiger, the Rocky Theme, Beat It, and Always Something There To Remind Me. Gaining copyright permission sure seemed much easier back in the day. [Thx WFMU]

The show: Spring starts here. 911 rewind.

Eight years and one day since The Day The World Changed Forever™. It seems like a lifetime ago. Luckily we still have comedian David Cross to remind us of those bizarre days…

“I don’t think Osama bin Laden sent those planes to attack us because he hated our freedom. I think he did it because of our support for Israel, our ties with the Saudi family and our military bases in Saudi Arabia. You know why I think that? Because that’s what he fucking said! Are we a nation of 6-year-olds? Answer: yes.”
    David Cross

And here is one of the weirdest things we remember from those strange days –  America:  A Tribute to Heroes where George Clooney (FTW?!?!?!?!?) wrangled America’s stars into fronting up to sing “America the Beautiful”. By the really nervous body language displayed by Al Pacino and Tom Cruise it seems likely that they did it at gun point. Or they were expecting a plane to land on the studio. After all, it was filmed on 21 September 2001…
