The Show: Wundercastle!

Being suckers for good pop tunes last week we played you four tracks from Crystal Magic Records, the Sydney based record label run by Fraser Austin (of Christchurch perfect synth-pop duo Frase + Bri fame). One of the tracks played was a new one from Wundercastle (aka Mark Holland of Tiger Tones!) brilliantly channelling and reinventing early 90s rave.

We’re pleased to announce that Wundercastle’s new album Straight Up Leisure Time is now available online at crystalmagic.bandcamp.com and is giving us fantastic 808 State and Altern-8 flashbacks. Loving the track “HI-NRG” with the cute little Royksopp keys. We’ll play a selection of tracks on the show today. Otherwise, have a good listen below.

The Show: The British invasion continues

Following the British invasion of Auckland this week by Radiohead and Coldplay you could be forgiven for thinking that the South Island misses out once again.

Never fear because The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall hit Christchurch next week on their Diamond Jubilee World Tour. To get you in the mood here’s Cassetteboy vs The Diamond Queen. See you in the mosh pit.

The Show: Rants, manifestos and lists

A wee while ago we played a track by Pairs entitled “A surgeon at a hospital in Shanghai severed a nerve in my groin” (tip of the hat to Sean Hocking of Metal Postcard Records). As you’ve probably guessed, we’re suckers for songs that are rants, manifestos, or lists. The aforementioned Pairs track probably falls into the latter camp and is a real blast.

Bill Bird of RDU’s legendary Human Pleasure @ Hourly Rates has let it be known that there is an accompanying video. Watch it below in all its technicolor, domestic chores, stop motion glory.

And here’s the playlist in full – no ads this week so it’s a concentrated 2 hour hit.

The Show: Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide

The Herb Whisperer is away in Melbourne on a very secret mission so Fraserhead is on his own today. Will he be able to last the distance?

Speaking of stamina, the video for the new Vitalic single “Stamina” is well worth a look. Very freaky. Not as freaky as Die Antwoord’s “Fatty Boom Boom” but freaky nonetheless…

The Show: Live from the MM’s Bar (In Coach F)

Do you like your liquorice salty or your licorice sweet?

Next something to do next weekend? RDU’s Hauswerk presents Frank Booker at The Monday Room next Saturday night 20 October 2012. We’re away next Saturday but the good news is that Hauswerk’s John Ussher will be filling in for us. Mr Ussher is keen to bust out some classic hip hop, trip hop, downbeat tunes as well as some classic soul.
