For the trainspotters (literally)…

Bergensbanen is the historic railway line in Norway that links Bergen to Oslo. It’s a very scenic ride that takes you past fjords and over mountains.

In October 2009 the Norwegian TV channel NRK2 filmed the 371km / 7.5 hour journey and screened parts of it on TV in November 2009. In December 2009 NRK made the footage available as an HD download.

A group of DJs at the DI.fm forums put together a soundtrack for this footage. There are 13 segments in total with 13 different ideas of a perfect soundtrack. It looks fantastic when you go full screen and it is quite hypnotic. A very enjoyable way to learn about the geography of Norway and listen to some techno / trance mixes you may never have heard otherwise.

Tip of the hat to Nick of Ocean of Sound.

By the way, not sure why I’ve always been a sucker for music videos involving trains but here are some of my favourites…

KLF – Last Train to Trancentral (1991)

The Chemical Brothers “Star Guitar” (2002)

Robert Miles “Children” (1994)

John Safran vs Chris Morris

Sunday Night Safran

This one almost slipped below The Joint radar. It’s the match-up we’ve all been waiting for as Australia’s answer to Chris Morris takes on John Safran’s British mentor.

By match-up I mean invites on Sunday Night Safran as a guest, and by takes on I mean cordially interviews about his film Four Lions.

The head to head starts at about the 31 minute mark.

Never quite understood the appeal of Father Bob though…

NZ Film Festival: “The Human Centipede”

Tuesday 4.15pm at The Regent is your last chance to see The Human Centipede at this year’s New Zealand International Film Festival in Christchurch.

Billed as “shockingly controversial” and “100% medically accurate” (very possibly by the people who made the trailer) The Human Centipede sounds like the silliest and funniest movie we’ll see all year.

Anyone who has worked in retail, customer services, a corporate environment, or the music industry will no doubt identify with this movie. Or if you’re the discerning film-goer type with a stick up your arse you can just pretend that it’s a profoundly ironic parable about the West’s disastrous adventure in Afghanistan.

Let’s all pray that they do good box office so that we get to see “The Human Centipede 2: Sock Puppets”.

I like sock puppets.
