Through your first story window I see my favourite record store…

Low_at_Saturn,_Birmingham,_Alabama,_2022-03-25,_Mimi_Red

Rest in peace Mimi Parker. Hard to pick one track to celebrate her voice, percussion and songwriting. Instead, one track from each of Low’s albums so that we slow down time and immerse ourselves in beautiful and unsettling dreams.

The Guardian: Low’s Mimi Parker was a voice of hope and healing in indie rock

The Show: Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my singer!

No Charlie Watts tribute sorry, but we thoroughly recommend popping over to YouTube and watching the isolated drums video for “Gimme Shelter”. Instead, lots of new cuts from our favourite Ōtautahi cats and many more.

The Show: It seems nowadays cab rides are rather pricely…

On the show today, highlights include a sneaky threesome from the new ITALIANS DO IT BETTER compilation “After Dark 3”, new releases from Ōtautahi Christchurch denizens HORN, VIOLET FRENCH, T.G. SHAND, LOCAL FLORIST., ZANE 2000, DOUJIN DUKE, and WURLD SERIES.

Plus our favourite Brisbane beatsmith ANARCHOSOPHIST recently got in touch to remind us about a few of his new cuts. If you like woozy, lofi, soundtrack hip-hop and you like cats then you’re sure going to dig “The Cat King in the Year of the Plague”…

By the way, today’s show title originated with an earworm of the Bob James classic “Angela” lead to a YouTube treasure hunt starting with Bob James discussing being sampled by the hip-hop community:

And thus led to the (re)discovery of Souls of Mischief “Cab Fare”:

The Show: Doomsday

RIP MF DOOM. 1971-2020.

Saddened to learn that MF DOOM aka Daniel Dumile, one of The Joint’s patron saints, passed away on 31 October 2020. The first quarter of the show today features some of DOOM’s highlights but it’s difficult to do justice to a lyrical genius, so follow these links for more detailed reflection…

On a more joyous and Christmassy note, ‘Barry: The Man Who Moves The Music’ was released just before Xmas in honour of Ōtautahi scene champion, RDU Wednesday Drive host and all-around living legend Andrew Barry aka A BAZ. All proceeds go to the Christchurch City Mission – Te Whare Mīhana ki Ōtautahi. Have a listen below.
