The Joint: First to put a bike rack on the Rolls…

Tyler, The Creator. He likes his classic cars. He likes his speedboats. He likes his bicycles. And apparently he likes attaching bike racks to Rolls Royces.

The musical remembrances of Camera Obscura and Cocteau Twins on the show today were from comedian Alan Davies’ new podcast Seven Pillars with Alan Davies and his chat with former footballer Pat Nevin.

And on with the show…

The Show: I’ll only feel worse, till I’m riding in a hearse, and I’m gone…

Thank you Matt Kennedy of fellow 8K.NZ show UNDERGROUND AUSTRALIANA for pointing us in the direction of Adelaide’s PEAK TWINS. Sure, “So Long” came out in 2013, but we’re slow on the uptake of most things, those good things take time, and a ballad with a dreamy David Lynch Roadhouse crooning vibe is pretty timeless anyway.

The Show: It all means the same, down the line

Winter hibernation doesn’t seem to have dented or affected musical productivity in Ōtautahi Christchurch. In these darkest and coldest of months the releases keep coming.

Looking forward to the new KOOL AID (the artists formerly known as Brian Tamaki and The Kool Aid Kids) Family Portrait EP. Lovely video too for ‘Family Portrait Revisited’, ironically a good summer day out in this Antipodean Gothic paradise.

And not forgetting these Christchurch cats, to name just a few who appear on the show today…

NECRUM SELECT

The Show: Sit down politely, do it like Nike…

Good friend of The Joint Blair Parkes has been busy as ever in his shed studio down in New Brighton and he’s got a new album ‘liveable city’ out now on Bandcamp. Dreamy, fuzzy, trippy and hazy. Just how we like our pop. Video above for the single ‘habit to break’.

A track from Motorbass kicks off the show today in memory of French producer extraordinaire Philippe “Zdar” Cerboneschi (Motorbass, La Funk Mob, and Cassius). And then we delve into a werewolf exploitation horror movie soundtrack from 1971 before weaving our way through our usual left-field and eclectic selections of pop, noise, beats and off-kilter techno.

The Show: Witney, Granby, Rochdale, Preston

 – Witney, because of its community-run bus service; Granby, in Liverpool, for its resident-directed housing; Rochdale, the birthplace of England’s co-operative movement; and Preston, where the city council is breaking with a failed economic system. This becomes the chorus: “Witney, Granby, Rochdale, Preston.”
