The Show: Wir fahr’n fahr’n fahr’n auf der Autobahn

This should have been the World Cup theme tune and then we may have got a Chile versus Germany final. It’s Señor Coconut and his cumbia Merengue arrangement of the Kraftwerk classic “Autobahn”.

The Show: For Ochoa. For Navas. For Enyeama.

Not for Casillas, Akinfeev or Pletikosa.

We’ve tried to limit our World Cup references in the last couple of weeks but the new single from John MOuse (not John Maus) gives us an opportunity to pay our respects to the stand out goalkeepers of the tournament.

To be fair to Mr. MOuse the song isn’t strictly about football and it’s uptempo, dare we say, Britpoppish vibe only represents one aspect of the magnificent “The Death Of John MOuse” album, soon to be released on Crocfingers. There’s also wistful melancholia and noise. We tried to capture all three in a rare Joint triple play on today’s show.

The Show: Out of touch, out of time

Like Daryl and John once said:

You’re out of touch, I’m out of time
But I’m out of my head when you’re not around

The Show: It was 30 years ago today, Donna Summer taught the Mancs to play

Apologies for the woozy and disorientating sound levels / effects at the start and end of today’s podcast – we were best by a myriad of technical issues. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose. Ou quelque chose.

The first part of the show was a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the release of New Order’s top party anthem and conga line favourite “Blue Monday“.

By the band’s own admission the song contained elements of  Klein & MBO’s “Dirty Talk” and a drum pattern lifted from a Donna Summer b-side. We didn’t get time to showcase the rest of the building blocks – the bassline from Sylvester’s “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” and a Kraftwerk sample or two.

However it does give us a chance to post this video again, the best of all the “Blue Monday” cover versions by the Brythoniaid Male Voice Choir.
