Pale, Stale Males & Sing Speech

James, Eno, CFTPA, heck, even Charlie Brown – the pale, stale male death rattle is heard throughout today’s show (Gaz Coombes didn’t make the cut… this week).

Then there’s the sing speech / speak singing – Laurie Anderson, Tami T, Special Request, Flux and (at a very dubby push) Miss Red.

All interspersed with our favourite moments from a tournament we never wanted to watch but discovered we didn’t have the moral fibre to ignore – FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. Never mind. We promise there’s no way we’ll be watching the calendar fucking, slave labour exploitingtradition trashing, new high bar of corruption FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Honest.

The Show: Boyle Correspondent.

And speaking of mysterious, corrupt cults, today’s show draws heavily from the soundtrack of Wild Wild Country, a Netflix documentary on the quite bizarre story of Bhagwan Raneesh’s attempts to build a utopian city in Oregon in the early 80’s.

The Show: For Ochoa. For Navas. For Enyeama.

Not for Casillas, Akinfeev or Pletikosa.

We’ve tried to limit our World Cup references in the last couple of weeks but the new single from John MOuse (not John Maus) gives us an opportunity to pay our respects to the stand out goalkeepers of the tournament.

To be fair to Mr. MOuse the song isn’t strictly about football and it’s uptempo, dare we say, Britpoppish vibe only represents one aspect of the magnificent “The Death Of John MOuse” album, soon to be released on Crocfingers. There’s also wistful melancholia and noise. We tried to capture all three in a rare Joint triple play on today’s show.

Scientist Wins The World Cup (1982, Greensleeves)

Turns out that the Scientist album “Scientist Wins The World Cup” was indeed released in 1982. Bloody prolific that fella. More about him here. And that’s probably all we’ll say about the World Cup from now on.

Here’s the playlist in full (and that is the disturbing Uncle Vic staring out at you)…
