The Show: Bloody Anglo-Saxons. Coming over here.

We’d love to be able to present you with a video of the Stewart Lee bit that was sampled on today’s last song courtesy of Asian Dub Foundation.

But we can’t.

The best we can manage is a slightly (deliberately?) wonky clip on  Daily Motion. So you’ll just have to close your eyes for four minutes whilst the picture is frozen but the audio keeps rolling.

On the other hand we do have the official video for the tune

The Show: Flirting with disaster

RIP Dele Fadele, NME journalist during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Although he actually died sometime during 2018 the news only became public a few weeks ago.

In 1992 he became one of the first people to call Morrissey out on his flirtation with right wing imagery.

“For what’s it’s worth, I don’t think Morrissey is a racist. He just likes the trappings and the culture that surround the outsider element. He has some racist friends. And if he carries on this way, he’ll have thousands more.”

Unfortunately, we now know how that particular flirtation turned out.

Mr. Fadele also fronted his own band, Welfare Heroine, and it’s their ever-so-slightly-baggy cover version of the 1969 Peter Sarstedt song “Where Do You Go To My Lovely” that features in today’s show.

The Show: Get Smartr

Now that the Stormzy – Wiley feud seems to have ground to a halt we offer you a review of all the sends (5 in total) in today’s mix. Head across to niche website Grime Beef for more details. We ran out of time to include the black midi and Afghan Dan additions to the canon.

The spoken word clips are from the Luminary podcast Smartr. First two episodes are free to download / stream but the remaining eight require a subscription. This makes things slightly awkward because Luminary is not available in New Zealand.

Closing track is the 15 minute “Word Wall 2”, featuring Elena Poulou and taken off the first vinyl release from Salford club The White Hotel. The club might not look promising from the outside but inside, well, just check out their gig guide for starters.
