The Show: “Never be ashamed to write a melody that people remember.”

Or, more accurately,  in the words of a French composer speaking to a young Burt Bacharach “never ever feel embarrassed or discomforted by a melody that people can remember or whistle”

Of all the in memoriams we read, this one on Twitter made us smile the most, especially the replies (“Did he say what he thought of Jobseeker?” “His eyes did.”)

Unfortunately the obituaries are coming thick and fast. At the time of writing this brief eulogy news came through of the sad passing of Trugoy the Dove.

The Show: Lost in music

When I remembered yesterday that Nile Rodgers of Chic had been working on the new Daft Punk album it sent me on a late night YouTube bender digging up lots of classic Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards productions. In 1979 they wrote “Spacer” for French outfit Sheila and Black Devotion. I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Daft Punk album is a retread of “Discovery”. And that would be a very nice thing.
