The show: Watch out. Here comes Poly-O-Rythmo!

Today was a special day on The Joint – Poly-O-Rythmo playing all vinyl (7″, 10″, 12″),  from all over the world (Togo, Panama, Pakistan), spanning many different decades (60’s, 70’s, 10’s) and some of the names of the artists remain a complete mystery.

If you’re left wanting more he’ll be back in couple of weeks under his Heavyfuzz pseudonym, bringing with him the Psych, Psyche, Psychedelic and Psychedelia sounds of Africa.

The Show: You’re a winner when you beat the game

Near the start of the show I played Red 7‘s “I Lost My Shoes On Acid” (we’ve all been there, haven’t we?). I recently nabbed the track from the fantastic Keytars & Violins blog and thought that the vocal sample was quite familiar. Turned out to be Hugh Masekela’s 1984 hit “Don’t Go Lose It Baby”. A blast from the past, as they say.

And we finished off the show with Pet Shop Boys’ second single “Vocal” off their latest album “Electric”. Have a peek at the video below. It’s made up of footage of what looks like late 80s early 90s raves. Bloody brilliant.
