Footnotes for today’s show:

* Found ourselves humming the riff of the new 1975 song over & over, wondering why it sounded so very familiar. Once we stopped humming we realised that they may have been “inspired” by Joy Division’s “Disorder” and then compressed that riff through the Pro Tools Bumblebee In A Lift Shaft Audio Filter©.

** Finally have a reason to sneak in a tune from the (very much) underground “Love Is A Drag” album from the early 1960’s. A jazz standard sung by a man for a man seems the perfect counterpoint to the startling “there is no homosexuality in Russia, just men who are addicted to sex” comment that precedes it.

The Show: Old Dundonian.

Today’s show leans heavily on (some might say “rips huge chunks from”) an interview that Mark Blyth gave to Ken Early in a recent edition of the Second Captains Podcast.

We like the cut of Mr Blyth’s jib. We like the cut of his Dundonian accent even more, particularly the emphasis that he gives the cr in crisp and crap.

The Show: Music Nerd Throwdown

This week musical distraction has come in the form of Shallow Rewards’ pop commentary videos – one man’s musical musings. There are 25 episodes so far and, although we don’t condone or agree with all the sentiments expressed in these clips (House Of Love only worth one half-assed single?), they make a great starting point for a throwdown between music nerds vigorous debate about the history of late 20th century popular music.
