The Show: I won’t get on my knees. Don’t make me do that please…

While researching and putting together the show this week (which involves throwing darts at music maps and scouring Bandcamp for Christchurch and Brisbane music) I stumbled across Hatchie & The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart’s glorious cover of The Jesus & Mary Chain’s “Sometimes Always”.

Proof indeed that the Reid brothers have an uncanny knack for writing perfect pop songs lovingly drenched in honeyed guitar tones. Sadly the pink vinyl 7-inch single has sold out but you can still have a listen below.

I seem also to have stumbled into the trap of playing TV theme tunes, but sometimes you just have to scratch that itch.

The Show: And here’s David with the weather…

In these post-lockdown Covid-19 times of social austerity and a craving for “normality” there was a brief temptation to revert The Joint to a conventional adult-contemporary radio format. For that reason we roped in David Lynch to do a regular weather report for us.

And it’s not a new phenomenon born out of recent cabin fever but something he’s done on and off for years.  E.g. here’s the weather report from 1 February 2005 with assistance from Laura Dern.

The Show: 1966. A good year…

And a happy birthday to The Herb Whisperer. Like Eric Cantona, he too was born in 1966. And much like Cantona’s genius performances on the pitch, Herb’s presence in the Old Trafford stands back in the day helped lay the foundation for Manchester United’s domination of English football throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
