The Show: Doomsday

RIP MF DOOM. 1971-2020.

Saddened to learn that MF DOOM aka Daniel Dumile, one of The Joint’s patron saints, passed away on 31 October 2020. The first quarter of the show today features some of DOOM’s highlights but it’s difficult to do justice to a lyrical genius, so follow these links for more detailed reflection…

On a more joyous and Christmassy note, ‘Barry: The Man Who Moves The Music’ was released just before Xmas in honour of Ōtautahi scene champion, RDU Wednesday Drive host and all-around living legend Andrew Barry aka A BAZ. All proceeds go to the Christchurch City Mission – Te Whare Mīhana ki Ōtautahi. Have a listen below.

The Show: Well the furniture’s the same, but the menu’s rearranged…

Newish from the one and only BLAIR PARKES “maybe you heard”. Perfect fuzziness straight outta New Brighton, New Zealand. As the wise Grant Smithies recently said “the perfect golden ratio of melody to noise”. Couldn’t agree more.

Download it here: https://blairparkes.bandcamp.com/track/maybe-you-heard

By the way, today’s blog heading was inspired by the rather fabulous “Mork n Mindy” collaboration between BILLY NOMATES and SLEAFORD MODS.

The Show: When Harri Met Steve

I remember hearing today’s opening song on the John Peel show back in 1980. Unfortunately I could never recall the name of the band (The Silver) or the name of the track (Do You Wanna Dance). What I thought I recalled was that the band were from Sweden (Finland actually), were very young and fell about in hysterics half way through the performance. Not even the most sophisticated 21st century search engines could provide a solution to a 40 year mystery with that scant information.

By sheer chance I came across a website that did provide the solution, buried deep in a post about ramshackle outsider art music. However the mystery continues because my browser history has been deleted and I can’t remember the website I have to thank.
