Musically the New Year used to feel like the graveyard shift of the music business – a time of the year full of remixes and reissues and repackaging. This year, maybe due to the kids just getting on with getting on there seems to be a steady stream of releases coming out of Christchurch – Ōtautahi.
For that reason on the show today listen out for recent releases from Joint favourites Kelvin Hurts (ex CHC now ALK), Liam K. Swiggs, Mad Frank, Dilemma Beats, Jagā, a sneaky threesome from pickle darling, and some synth loveliness from the mysterious Supernova Wolf. Plus we plunder the immaculate selections of Keytars & Violins for some of the best left field techno of 2018. Happy New Year.
Doing things back to front today and starting with the (so called) slow burners and then finishing with the (so called) bangers. A bit of catching up from releases that escaped the attention from earlier this year plus a lot of new stuff from the likes of Camilla Sparksss, Mad Frank, Mmdelai, Sabiwa, MISS RED, Kambo Super Sound System, pickle darling, DOG Power, and Sandro Perri. Also, a sneaky plundering of the Whities back catalogue.
Very excited to announce that Henry Nicol and Sam Perry’s brand new DOG Power album is finally here. Get yer stinking mitts on it over at their Bandcamp or have a listen below. The dark and sifty underbelly of Otautahi Christchurch never sounded so good. So good in fact that when trying to decide what track to play on the show today we took the easy way out and played a handful. Easy.
