Last Wednesday was World Goth Day, a global Unesco initiative sponsored by The Illuminati and Estee Lauder. The aim of the day is to take the world’s mind off dubstep and also to sell more candles, red wine, and eye liner.
Today we discovered that The Herb Whisperer went through an 8 month Goth phase during 1986. The Goth binge climaxed in the form of a Sisters of Mercy gig and shortly after The Herb Whisperer lost interest hence avoiding Gothageddon. But he still has a place in his heart for The Rose Of Avalanche, especially the classic “L.A. Rain”…
This is what you call a freakout. The Bruce Springsteen cover version was pretty damn spooky but Neneh Cherry‘s version of Suicide’s 1979 single “Dream Baby Dream” is crazy. Like someone strangling a saxophone. Have a listen below. God bless those crazy Norwegians at Smalltown Supersound.
Spanky mentioned the idea of musical checks and balances on the RDU Breakfast Show yesterday morning. So, with Fraserhead away, will an unbalanced Joint have enough self-regulation to stop itself descending into an unrelenting mix of happy hardcore, bagpipe jazz, blackened crust and zydeco?
We’ll be at the Christchurch gig, Tuesday 3 November at The Bedford, in the moshpit dressed up as aubergines (or eggplants). Actually, we won’t really. The Herb Whisperer despises eggplant and apparently Ladyhawke is allergic to them, hence the connection he feels with Ladyhawke, a connection he first discovered when in London back in August. See the London Lite story below…
ABOUT THE JOINT
Hosts THE HERB WHISPERER and FRASERHEAD go all over the shop with an eclectic, left-field, and off-kilter selection of cosmic disco, electro, indie, hip-hop, house, dub, and anything with a motorik vibe, plus the occasional guilty pleasure. If the radio sounds broken chances are it’s the THE JOINT.
