Sometimes I’m on hype, sometimes I’m on chill mode…

Ambient bagpipes, hip hop mashups, local synths, and ballet symphonies amongst others.

Allow us to enter into evidence, Exhibit A…

Through your first story window I see my favourite record store…

Low_at_Saturn,_Birmingham,_Alabama,_2022-03-25,_Mimi_Red

Rest in peace Mimi Parker. Hard to pick one track to celebrate her voice, percussion and songwriting. Instead, one track from each of Low’s albums so that we slow down time and immerse ourselves in beautiful and unsettling dreams.

The Guardian: Low’s Mimi Parker was a voice of hope and healing in indie rock

The Show: BNE

A recent flying visit to Brisbane by Fraserhead shaped the playlist today. A tight schedule meant he could not get to any gigs or record shopss but scouring Bandcamp later on for Brisbane’s alt, indie, left-field and electronically tinged offerings shed light on quite a vibrant music culture. Think of it as a musical travelogue rather than an exhaustive survey. Thank you also to Mel Echo of Melbourne’s Annual Leaf for recommendations and pointers too.

PS: The above image is a detail of “Borne On The Wind” (2013) by Brisbane born artist Anne Wallace from her Suburban Noir project. The major survey Anne Wallace: Strange ways at QUT Art Museum more than made up for missing out on gigs and record shops.

The Show: 5 DJs for the price of 2

Happy New Year!!!

To kick off 2015 in style DJ Butcher (aka Deano von Lounge) and Poly-O-Rythmo (aka Heavyfuzz aka Headsfunk) dropped in to play the lush and ultra rare vinyl sounds of northern soul, Kenyan dub, Ethiopian jazz, afro funk, psychedelic rock, sixties soul, and all sorts of things in between.

Thats 5 DJs for the price of 2.

And it’s the ultimate in laziness by The Herb Whisperer, and, Fraserhead. We’ll be back in action next week though.
