Like a two-edged sword, he touched you and it stabs me.

Wow. Those keytars just keep turning up. After getting a few Goldie Lookin Chain earworms recently I endeavoured to track down the source samples for their hits “Your Mother’s Got a Penis” and “Soapbar.” For that tenuous reason Greg Phillinganes and ‘Sweet’ Charles Sherrell appeared in the mix this week.

You’d better stop this playing on my mind

Michael Fortunati aka Pierre Michel Nigro
Michael Fortunati aka Pierre Michel Nigro

It started as an earworm. That 1987 Kylie Minogue hit “I Heard A Rumour”. Except it wasn’t. It was Bananarama. So down the rabbit hole we went to listen to Bananarama hits and that’s how we stumbled across Michael Fortunati and his 1986 hit “Give Me Up”.

WHY. DID. WE. NOT. KNOW. ABOUT. THIS?
It’s Italo Disco Euro Beat keytar gold.
You can even smell the Kouros.

The Show: Bailterspace coming home?

I quite like the new Bailterspace album “Strobosphere”. One of my favourite bands of all time. The new album brings back good memories of their Christchurch gigs in the late 1980s and early 1990s, possibly the loudest gigs I’ve ever been to.

Bailterspace have been based in NYC for many years now so I never thought I would get to see them play live ever again. Am very tempted to go see them at Laneway in Auckland but found out yesterday that they will be playing at The Dux here in Christchurch on Saturday 2 Feb!!! That’s what I call a homecoming.

Below is the video for “World We Share” from the latest album “Strobosphere”. Damn fine clanging deep sea fishing trawler rock ‘n’ roll I say.
