The Show: We’re living through strange days…

For today’s show we egregiously plundered bits and pieces from the new Adam Curtis documentary series “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”. Thoroughly recommended for a bit of self-induced discombobulation.

Excited by upcoming new album “Cosmonaut” by PICKLE DARLING, which is out 21 May 2021. To keep you going in the meantime treat yourself to Bigness (Instrumentals)

Plus – and we are several seasons late to it – not forgetting the TIGA podcast First/Last Party On Earth. Rave classics today inspired by Tiga’s recently conversation with the one and only TREVOR JACKSON.

The Show: 1971 was a good year

1971. Fifty whole years ago.

A good year for The Arsenal (winning the coveted Football League First Division and FA Cup double).

A good year for music (with albums from the likes of Can, Carly Simon, Harry Nilsson, Serge Gainsbourg, Captain Beeheart, The Carpenters and many others).

And the year Fraserhead was born.

Saying that, sadly no music from 1971 in the mix today (Harry Nilsson a few weeks back was it), but there’s a token effort with some found footage of The Arsenal’s double winning season (apologies to Spurs and Liverpool fans), and then there’s the usual cryptic blend of beats and noises.

The Show: I can barely remember how it feels…

Almost the end of the year and out of the blue Joint favourite MICA LEVI sneakily drops her first ever solo album. For that reason there was a quick rejig of today’s playlist to start proceedings with possibly the shortest track we’ve played all year, but definitely the track with the longest name. See playlist details below.

And on with the show…

Direct download: The Joint – 19 December 2020

Notebooks out completists, here’s the playlist in full…

  • MICA LEVI – A plain clothed Jimi Hendrix drives me to Newcastle. For some reason the trip will take 3 days and he is going to do it for £150. He drives really smoothly and only listens to one album which is by someone with Joy in their name. Joy’s music is covers of classic rock songs but with all the edge smoothed off. We arrive in Brazil and I impress someone because I say obrigado. The same person asks me to find them an intern. I don’t think I can but I try. I am nervous in the girls changing room and play trap songs loud off my phone.
  • CARAMEL SMOOTH HEAVEN & JESS ASPINWALL – Cant I? (feat. luis)
  • FRENCH CONCESSION – Peak
  • JUNO IS – It’s No Groover
  • MARSHEAUX – We Met Bernard Sumner At A Christmas Party Last Night
  • IN AETERNAM VALE + VERONICA VASICKA – Ghost Rider

  • SOULWAX – Empty Dancefloor *
  • SHUBOSTAR – Lynch
  • 2XM – Floating Desire
