The Show: New Zealand International Film Festival

The New Zealand International Film Festival is here!!!

If you want to attend films in style why not treat yourself to a Cinemetal t-shirt as worn by RDU’s very own Splash? Splash recommends the Jodorowsky / Judas Priest look as seen below. We’re keen on the Carpenter design.

The show: Watch out. Here comes Heavyfuzz!

Poly-O-Rythmo returns this week in his Heavyfuzz guise, playing the African fuzz funk from Nigeria, Benin and Mauritius plus much, much more.

In case you were wondering about his bona fides, NowAgain Records describe him as a “New-Zealand based psych-zealot” who helped piece together the Soundway compilation “The World Ends”.

If all this has just whetted your appetite have a root through some of the blogs that we came across when compiling the links for the playlist – Oro, Dusty African Grooves, With Comb And Razor, Voodoo Funk and trawl the archives of the, apparently, now defunct Radiodiffusion Internasionaal Annexe.

The show: Jet Jaguar drops in

Jet Jaguar

Jet Jaguar models a bright orange hoodie from the Tommy Hilfiger “Guantanamo Bay” collection.

We didn’t scare him off. Jet Jaguar, as promised, did drop into the show for an hour* to play some brand new tunes, chat about Malty Media (his collaborative radio show with Aquaboogie), and subtly plug the hell out of the latest compilation he appears on Apropos of Nothing.

Off air it was more like a Gitmo interrogation session – ironic really because Mr Jaguar was wearing a bright orange hoodie from the Tommy Hilfiger “Guantanamo Bay” collection.

At least we got to the bottom of the mystery regarding his website’s odd domain name www.nonwrestler.com. Turns out that way back in the day when Mr Jaguar was trying to register the Jet Jaguar domain name he discovered that a Mexican wrestler already owned it. Henceforth he decided that instead of trying to come up with a new moniker it would just be easier to use the term “non wrestler”. Now, that’s genius.

And a bonus for you music geeks – Jet Jaguar recommends AudioMulch.

* It’s possible that Mr Jaguar stuck around for an hour because we hid his wallet (so he couldn’t catch a bus or taxi) and cellphone (so he couldn’t call for help).

Jet Jaguar is our special guest star this Saturday!

Wow. For once all that stalking paid off!

Jet Jaguar aka Michael Upton is dropping into The Joint this Saturday to play some of his new tunes.

As well as appearing to be the politest person in the NZ music “scene” Jet Jaguar has been making classy mellow beats forever (well, since 1996 – check his discography). We promise to be nice to him.

Linky dinks…
