More tracks than you can shake a stick at today, with many of them originating from Christchurch’s Crooked Lidz label and the new Melted Ice Cream Christchurch compilation “Sickest Smashes From Arson City.”
If you want to attend films in style why not treat yourself to a Cinemetal t-shirt as worn by RDU’s very own Splash? Splash recommends the Jodorowsky / Judas Priest look as seen below. We’re keen on the Carpenter design.
Cinemetal’s “Jodorowsky” in a Judas Priest style t-shirt. Class.
I quite like the new Bailterspace album “Strobosphere”. One of my favourite bands of all time. The new album brings back good memories of their Christchurch gigs in the late 1980s and early 1990s, possibly the loudest gigs I’ve ever been to.
Bailterspace have been based in NYC for many years now so I never thought I would get to see them play live ever again. Am very tempted to go see them at Laneway in Auckland but found out yesterday that they will be playing at The Dux here in Christchurch on Saturday 2 Feb!!! That’s what I call a homecoming.
Below is the video for “World We Share” from the latest album “Strobosphere”. Damn fine clanging deep sea fishing trawler rock ‘n’ roll I say.
This week musical distraction has come in the form of Shallow Rewards’ pop commentary videos – one man’s musical musings. There are 25 episodes so far and, although we don’t condone or agree with all the sentiments expressed in these clips (House Of Love only worth one half-assed single?), they make a great starting point for a throwdown between music nerds vigorous debate about the history of late 20th century popular music.
And here’s today’s playlist in full, with not one shoegazery song in sight…
ABOUT THE JOINT
Hosts THE HERB WHISPERER and FRASERHEAD go all over the shop with an eclectic, left-field, and off-kilter selection of cosmic disco, electro, indie, hip-hop, house, dub, and anything with a motorik vibe, plus the occasional guilty pleasure. If the radio sounds broken chances are it’s the THE JOINT.
