The Show: Christchurch – Ōtautahi 2017… the year in review

Today it’s a review of the year in music from Christchurch – Ōtautahi featuring some of our favourite releases throughout 2017.

We couldn’t quite fit them all in, some may not strictly have been made in “Christchurch”, and there are some tracks that were produced earlier than 2017 but only saw the light of this day this year, but we’re sure you get the gist.

And because we like to get a bit OCD on it – and also to avoid ranking art – the setlist features the artists in chronological order of track release…

The Show: In the ballroom of my mind…

Fraserhead at the controls this week, starting off motorik-ish, then delving into new Christchurch beats, followed by jumping all over the place with house, surf, garage, drone and techno.

And how the hell did we ever sleep on Queen Neptune? Their recent release “The Queen’s Speech” is genius, and the album released at the start of 2017 is pure motorik bliss.

The Show: I’m a prisoner. I’m a copier. I’m a repeater. I’m a follower.

Always fun to find a tenuous reason to stick a Martin Creed video in the blog.

Well, not that tenuous really. A Martin Creed triple play features in the middle of the show today and is bookended by our signature selection of atmospheric beats, off-kilter house, washing machine techno and fragile ballads.

Damn. Forgot to somehow insert The Woodsman (from Twin Peaks) into the show. Oh well. That can keep for next week.
