The Show: I’m taking myself to the dirty part of town…

In which David Hasselhoff makes his first ever appearance on The Joint covering the 1989 Jesus and Mary Chain classic “Head On”. He doesn’t do a bad job either. File under #karaokeguiltypleasures

The Show: Be urself

Today’s playlist was inspired by an Alexis Petridis article on the Guardian website – ‘Be urself’: meet the teens creating a generation gap in music

At The Joint HQ we love a good generation gap, the wider the better, so expect more from (and I’m paraphrasing heavily here) 80’s Sarah Records soundalikes racking up 30m+ YouTube views.

And we’ve just realised we still haven’t posted the video for CHAII’s Digebasse  (Enough), a massive oversight on our part which we can fix right now…

The Show: Are You Hanging Up Your Stocking On Your Wall? Are You Hanging Up Your Stocking On Your Wall? Are You…

Tried to avoid any Christmas frivolity this year but the pull towards festive nonsense was too great.

Plus, the repeated-lyric-reworking of Slade’s “Merry Xmas Everybody” put us in mind of an equivalent deconstruction someone performed on The Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me” a few years ago.

The Show: If band stage positions were football formations…

Joel Gion parks the bus.

Joel Gion “parks the bus.” That’s soccerball lingo for packing the defence and smothering attacks from the other team.

…what was The Brian Jonestown Massacre‘s formation last night at The Foundry? 4-2-1? 1-3-2-1? 1-3-3? Was Joel Gion a false nine deliberately distracting us with tambourine trickery. Was Anton Newcombe playing the classic trequartista role but unconventionally orchestrating action from the right flank instead of through the middle? Unconventional minds want to know.
