The Show: Scientist meets Pac-Man and The Space Invaders at the 1982 World Cup to fight the Evil Vampires (with E.T.)

Scientist Wins The World Cup (1982, Greensleeves)

Scientist Wins The World Cup (1982, Greensleeves)

Turns out that the Scientist album “Scientist Wins The World Cup” was indeed released in 1982. Bloody prolific that fella. More about him here. And that’s probably all we’ll say about the World Cup from now on.

Here’s the playlist in full (and that is the disturbing Uncle Vic staring out at you)…

The Show: Gene Krupa – Drummin’ man

There’s a magnificent run of rhymes in the Davis song “Levert” we played today – sutures, computer, luger, Krueger, cougar, tutor, tumour and tuna amongst others – but the one that made us take notice was:

New lease on life learning drum like Gene Krupa

Nice to hear a name check for the drummin’ man.

As a special bonus you can peer behind the curtain at the inner (inane?) workings of The Joint when we forget to turn the microphones off at the 1:41:20 mark. Will these off-air comments prove to be our Rachel Smalley moment? Strain your ears to find out.

The Show: Lobsters

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the release of the first Derek & Clive record we present “Jump”

Maybe we should have played “The Worst Job” instead, it would have segued nicely into the Squeaky Lobster track.

Still on a Cook & Moore tangent, take advantage of Trunk Records’ ridiculously cheap Bedazzled soundtrack offering – 50p for the full download. Get in while it lasts.

The Show: Really fucking edgy

If you have the fascination / stomach to watch the original Signal 30 short, as described in today’s show, head on over to The Internet Archive.

Otherwise you can make do with the first official video from Public Service Broadcasting, wherein they sample some of the audio and images from the legendary 1959 snuff movie driving safety film.
