Best Joy Division cover ever?

Last Saturday during the gig guide we criminally neglected to inform you that Permanence (Joy Division Covers Project) by huge popular demand are playing another gig at The Dux this Saturday night. So if you missed the last gig DO NOT miss this one!

And by pure coincidence here’s Steel Harmony covering Joy Division’s “Transmission”. The performance was at Procession in Deansgate, Manchester last Sunday. Ah, the steel drum. The only instrument that’s cooler than a cowbell.

Tip of the hat to Kebabette and The Beat.

The show: Michael Jackson tragibute. A threesome with Mos Def. Mrs Herb Whisperer drops in.

And here’s the legendary Cassetteboy with possibly the greatest Michael Jackson tragibute of all time…

We’ve always enjoyed those Cassetteboy scallywags. Get your fill at these places:

There are many MJ tributes doing the rounds but here is our truly favourite MJ moment. It was when Jarvis Cocker invaded the stage at the 1996 BRIT Awards to protest Michael Jackon’s messiah complex. Brilliant stuff. It’s what rock n roll™ is all about.

No podcast this week sorry.

RIP Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop is dead. You could blame it on a cardiac arrest, prescription drugs, the moonlight, or the boogie, BUT we may have had something to do with it.

Fraserhead played “Thriller” on the show last week (in amongst some Justice). What we have found over the years is that when we have played (out of the blue) older artists who we haven’t played for quite a while they tend to die the following week. So far this curse has struck Johnny Cash, James Brown, Desmond Dekker, Hunter S Thompson to name just a few.

Please accept our sincere apologies. But if there’s anyone you would like bumped off please contact us and we’ll see what we can do. The Herb Whisperer is very keen for a Phil Collins retrospective.

Here’s MJ and his brothers from 1978’s “Blame it on the boogie”…

The show: The Herb Whisperer is carbon negative and is now on hiatus. Fraserhead will hold the fort.

Earlier this week our accountant shocked us with the news that The Herb Whisperer is carbon negative – not carbon neutral like we originally thought. To get him to a point where he is carbon neutral will involve him expending a lot of carbon by making lots of international flights. This means The Herb Whisperer will be on hiatus over the next several months.

Hiatus is not a country in the Caribbean. In fact, The Herb Whisperer has taken up semi-permanent residence in The Andrew Ridgeley Suite at Club Tropicana on the Gold Coast in AUstralia. This involves a lot of poolside action and being served pinacoladas by George Michael lookalikes. The Gold Coast is one of the weirder parts of world.

This does mean that the podcast is out of action for a while.

But it also means that in the secluded privacy of the RDU studio Fraserhead, as well as continue doing the show, can just sit there watching classy music videos by Make The Girl Dance for their new single “Baby Baby Baby”. If you look closely, you will notice that the video image is mirrored (eg. shop names are backwards). Yes, Fraserhead notices things like this.
