The Show: Bailterspace coming home?

I quite like the new Bailterspace album “Strobosphere”. One of my favourite bands of all time. The new album brings back good memories of their Christchurch gigs in the late 1980s and early 1990s, possibly the loudest gigs I’ve ever been to.

Bailterspace have been based in NYC for many years now so I never thought I would get to see them play live ever again. Am very tempted to go see them at Laneway in Auckland but found out yesterday that they will be playing at The Dux here in Christchurch on Saturday 2 Feb!!! That’s what I call a homecoming.

Below is the video for “World We Share” from the latest album “Strobosphere”. Damn fine clanging deep sea fishing trawler rock ‘n’ roll I say.

The Show: Music Nerd Throwdown

This week musical distraction has come in the form of Shallow Rewards’ pop commentary videos – one man’s musical musings. There are 25 episodes so far and, although we don’t condone or agree with all the sentiments expressed in these clips (House Of Love only worth one half-assed single?), they make a great starting point for a throwdown between music nerds vigorous debate about the history of late 20th century popular music.

The Show: The Return of The Return of The Butcher

DJ Butcher aka Deano Murakami
DJ Butcher aka Deano Murakami

Nice to have DJ Butcher over from Osaka and play us a fabulous selection from his scarily extensive collection of funk, soul, ska, and dub 45s.

The Hot 8 Brass Band from New Orleans have got a new album out and their cover version of Ghost Town is something quite special.

The Show: Apocalypso

We’re not ones for original thoughts and ideas. Never have been, probably never will. Hence us taking the easy way out today and celebrating the Mayan apocalypse with an end of the world flavour to the show. Still no Phil Collins though.
