You can, kind of, lose yourself in it…

The holidays have been a good time to catch up on the overlooked releases of 2016 as well as enjoy the first fruits of 2017. Even then we could only squeeze in a small selection.

Today we’ve got the dark beats from the likes of MIXHELL (see video above for a 2017 remix of a late 2016 track), Tolouse Low Trax, Marie Davidson, Dread Monochrome, ‘duets’ from Islet and The xx, beautiful noise from The Trendees and MANNEQUIN PUSSY.

Blow out the candles and make a wish while you can

Goodbye to The Year of the Monkey. Hello to The Year of the Rooster. And to be honest… good riddance to 2016. At least we had the likes of NO BRA aka Susanne Oberbeck able to make an off-kilter year even more off-kilterer.

Into 2017 we go. Things stay thankfully, mercifully, and healthily even more off-kilterer with Mary Ocher.

Like a two-edged sword, he touched you and it stabs me.

Wow. Those keytars just keep turning up. After getting a few Goldie Lookin Chain earworms recently I endeavoured to track down the source samples for their hits “Your Mother’s Got a Penis” and “Soapbar.” For that tenuous reason Greg Phillinganes and ‘Sweet’ Charles Sherrell appeared in the mix this week.
