The pledge, the turn and the prestige – a show of three parts

Direct download: The Joint – 7 January 2017

The first part is all the tunes we are just catching up on after trawling through everyone else’s “Best of 2016” lists – including Bleep, Noisey, Metal Postcard, Hype Machine and The Guardian.

The third part is our usual fare with one eye on new releases in 2017. At The Drive-In. Cate Le Bon. The XX. British Sea Power.

Like a two-edged sword, he touched you and it stabs me.

Wow. Those keytars just keep turning up. After getting a few Goldie Lookin Chain earworms recently I endeavoured to track down the source samples for their hits “Your Mother’s Got a Penis” and “Soapbar.” For that tenuous reason Greg Phillinganes and ‘Sweet’ Charles Sherrell appeared in the mix this week.

Nice chorus, shame about the verses

This week is not the first time The Joint has embraced an Eastenders themed track. Anyone remember Osymyso‘s Pat & Peg from the turn of the century?

DJ S1FTER presents Goody Gumdrops

Direct download: The Joint – 26 November 2016

DJ S1FTER fills in, putting the garage back into garage, and maybe even putting a porch on the Porsche. This time he goes MkII Zephyr style and adds a few Kiwi artists –  Scribe, P Money, and a funky Poi E remix. The Jag also gets some attention with tracks from English gangster movie Snatch (“I’ve seen Snatch… and I like it”- DJ S1FTER) bookending the mix with some good R’n’B and Blues Brothers thrown in to keep it worldly. As usual there is a fine selection of house with WaFF, Marlon Hoffstadt & Dansson, and Sideburn & Viktor Kaman. And S1FTER kinda apologises for the Hall & Oates… kinda.
