Bland Together
Bland Together

Bland Together is on today in North Hagley Park from 11am until 8pm. Now I know how the Ethiopians felt in 1984 when Live Aid was broadcast around the world.

The Herb Whisperer has done a runner so Donna aka Kebabette is hosting the show with me today. Lots of glamourous / nu-goth / post-punk numbers for your listening pleasure. Okay – I’m a liar – so there’s no post-punk but almost every thing we’re playing was made post-punk.

The show: Saturday 9 October 2010

Lots of bass heavy stuff (King Midas Sound. Magnetic Man, Ginz, Benga, Skream), lo-fi (Ringo Deathstarr, Aias), lo-key (Karlmarx, Seefeel) and much, much more. Perfect stuff for a grey rainy day.

Just in case you need something sugary sweet to lift the gloom have a peek at the new Uffie video for “Difficult”…

Hip hop loves a good feud and Nas has stirred up things with a classic email tirade against his Def Jam bosses. Reminded me of the Strange Parcels track “Disconnection” from 1991…

Cool. New Disasteradio album Charisma is released 15 October 2010. Even better, you can get a free download of “Drop the Bomb” over at A Low Hum.

Here’s that Doug Stanhope clip we alluded to. For those of you who find dubstep depressing on a sunny day, then you’re probably the sort of person who might find this a bit tasteless…

On a more serious matter, here’s a very important message from James Dann aka Ed Muzik about the Christchurch local body elections:

The show: Rewind to 1995/1996??? Sort of.

Yup – sure feels like we’re back to 1995/1996 as a reference point today what with brand new stuff from Seefeel, DJ Shadow, UNKLE, and Lone doing his new ravestep styles.

Das Racist have got a very amusing new album out now. It’s called “Sit Down, man”. And it sounds like the aural equivalent of Stuff White People Like. Brilliant stuff.

For those amongst you who are suckers for soundtracks be sure to check out Zombie Zombie and their reworkings of John Carpenter film scores. Here’s Zombie Zombie performing at the 2010 Glasgow Film Festival…
