Total (Failure To) Recall

During the course of last week’s show Fraserhead failed to recall anybody releasing anything on 4AD records in the last 20 years. Worse still, The Herb Whisperer failed to recall the name of the band who had released something on 4AD records just last year (The Big Pink was the name he was stretching for).

To help out, Greg Dodds sent an e-mail to us with a link to a free 2009 sampler from 4AD, featuring The Big Pink and 11 other artists, including Joint favourites Camera Obscura and tUnE-YarDs.

The show: This is not a Valentine’s Day special

In fact, the closest we got to a romantic song was the new single from Everybody Was in The French Resistance…Now!, “G.I.R.L.F.R.E.N. (You Know I’ve Got A)”, the main sentiment of which is:

“Fuck off, you psycho, can’t you see I’ve got a partner already?”

The show: When it rains, it pours (gigs that is).

Very spoilt for choice for gigs today. Sounday in Hagley Park; Wellington Phoenix versus Adelaide Dingoes at Lancaster Park; Joanna Newsom / Jens Lekman / The Renderers at The Repertory Theatre; and most unexpectedly but most anticipated (by us at least), Daedelus at Goodbye Blue Monday (and it’s a free gig) !!!

The show: The return of DJ Butcher

Special guest star on the show today was DJ Butcher aka Deano. Deano used to work at Echo Records and Galaxy Records a few years ago and will be familiar to many of you Christchurch record shop sifters and lurkers.

Deano currently lives in Osaka, Japan and is back in Christchurch for a summer break. We managed to lure him into the studio for old time’s sake so that we could hear some of his classic funk, reggae, lounge, and new wave records. Deano would just like you to know that he has never intentionally eaten whale meat in Japan (the only time was an accident – he found out afterwards) and he has never seen whale flavoured ice cream (though he would not be at all surprised if it existed).

Vodpod videos no longer available.
