The Show: Hip Hop XLIV

For reasons we won’t go into here, but you can read about there, August 11th 1973 is officially the day hip hop was born.

We’re not going to argue but instead use it as an excuse to present a 100% hip hop show show (albeit one week and one day late).

Starting with The Hood’s mash up “40 Years Of Hip Hop” , moving through our usual quotient of all things rap related, then onto BBC Radio 6’s  Freak Zone “Freaky Hip Hop Mix” and rounding things off with Paul White’s free mix tape “Everything You’ve Forgotten”.

The Show: In the ballroom of my mind…

Fraserhead at the controls this week, starting off motorik-ish, then delving into new Christchurch beats, followed by jumping all over the place with house, surf, garage, drone and techno.

And how the hell did we ever sleep on Queen Neptune? Their recent release “The Queen’s Speech” is genius, and the album released at the start of 2017 is pure motorik bliss.

The Show: Sparks Plugs

As The Joint reluctantly adapts to middle-aged life it’s heartening to see two 70ish year old brothers making angry, vibrant, catchy pop music. We reckon these might possibly be some of the best tunes of the Maels’ 50 year career.

And in this week’s edition of Lyrics Bingo match the following couplets to their respective songs:

“Ain’t left the city in months,
I guess Westfield knows what I want”

“I’m a janitor,
Oh my genitals”

“You’re a feminist until I won’t fuck you,
You’re a feminist until I talk to other guys”

“Gotta light?”
