If I Were An Animal – the Christchurch online music show

In case you missed it first time round be sure to have a peek at If I Were An Animal – the Christchurch online music show.

The show is produced by three New Zealand Broadcasting students (Libby Dallison, Karl Stanley, and Phillip Gow) for their major project. Because it’s a project the show consists of only has four episodes but it’s quite impressive. Let’s hope they can find the time and energy to make more.

Bands and events featured include: Flip Grater, The Datsuns, the CHARTdisc 4 release party, Cairo Knife Fight, The Eastern, Kids of 88, Sleepy Age, The Unfaithful Ways, Rare Shot Blue, The Dukes, Green Like Go, and Skudderhill.

I guess what spins my wheels is that while I have seen some of these artists live, listened to them on the radio, and read about them in various music publications seeing moving pictures of the artists adds yet another dimension.

Here’s the four episodes…

Bland Together
Bland Together

Bland Together is on today in North Hagley Park from 11am until 8pm. Now I know how the Ethiopians felt in 1984 when Live Aid was broadcast around the world.

The Herb Whisperer has done a runner so Donna aka Kebabette is hosting the show with me today. Lots of glamourous / nu-goth / post-punk numbers for your listening pleasure. Okay – I’m a liar – so there’s no post-punk but almost every thing we’re playing was made post-punk.

Benga “Baltimore Clap”

Damn. Can’t believe I missed this first time round.

I gave the Benga album “Phaze One” a thrashing for a few weeks when it got released (June?) then clean forgot about it.

Didn’t realise there was a freaky video for “Baltimore Clap”. Exhilarating, captivating and depressing all at the same time!
