The Show: Herb is overseas so Iggy drops in

The Herb Whisperer is away today.

In Melbourne. With 70,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Not with.

Near.

Behind a door.

Luckily Iggy Pop dropped in to discuss free music in a capitalist society. You can find out more about this at Mr Pop’s 2014 John Peel Lecture. The transcript is here if you want to skip to the juicy details. Food for thought.

I didn’t think the Nancy Whang / Etienne de Crecy version of “Comme Un Aigle” / “Like An Eagle” could be beat but how wrong I was. Have a peek below at the Michel Vedette version. Anyone know where we can buy silver disco shorts?

The Show: You’re a winner when you beat the game

Near the start of the show I played Red 7‘s “I Lost My Shoes On Acid” (we’ve all been there, haven’t we?). I recently nabbed the track from the fantastic Keytars & Violins blog and thought that the vocal sample was quite familiar. Turned out to be Hugh Masekela’s 1984 hit “Don’t Go Lose It Baby”. A blast from the past, as they say.

And we finished off the show with Pet Shop Boys’ second single “Vocal” off their latest album “Electric”. Have a peek at the video below. It’s made up of footage of what looks like late 80s early 90s raves. Bloody brilliant.

Saturations video “Nowhere”

Blair Parkes aka Saturations has got a trippy new video for his track “Nowhere”.

The track is from his recent “Black Circles” EP which is available now for $10 on Bandcamp. Have a sneaky listen below.

X-Ray Charles video “Supersoaker”

“Supersoaker” is the perfect pop single from Christchurch’s X-Ray Charles recent”Selph Titled” EP. Nice video too. No bullshit. Just hardcore siftiness.

If you’re feeling flush go and buy their new release “Selph Titled”.

The Show: The return of Tulip Black

Lady Tulip
Lady Tulip aka Tulip Black, turning things upside down just like Diana Ross.

Her last appearance on The Joint was back in 2009 and today is the return of Lady Tulip. She’s not too pleased either after missing out on tickets to Beyoncé’s three Auckland gigs in October which means she will be playing the darkest, scariest R&B that she can find. Hold tight.
